BACKGROUND – Greta Thunberg was born on 03 January 2003 in Stockholm Sweden, the daughter of opera singer Malena Ernman and actor Svante Thunberg. Also, her paternal grandfather was actor and director Olof Thunberg.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – In 2011, When she was eight years old, she heard about climate change and could not understand why so little was being done about it. In 2011. At the age of 11, the situation made her depressed and as a result she stopped talking and eating and lost ten kilograms in two months. In a conclusion, she was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and selective mutism.
Before she began her school, strike Thunberg struggled with depression for three or four years. Even her parents didn’t support her activism. In May 2015, Greta was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome which was made public nationwide in Sweden.
Thunberg wanted her parents to lower the family’s carbon footprint and overall impact on the environment by becoming vegan, up-cycling and giving up flying.
By showing them graphs and data to her parents and when it didn’t work, she warned her family that they were stealing her future. By giving flying in part meant her mother had to give up her international career as an Opera Singer.
MAJOR INITIATIVES-
- In August 2018, Greta Thunberg started a school strike for the climate outside the Swedish Parliament that has since spread all over the world and now involves over 1,00,000 school children. The movement is now called Fridays for Future.
- Thunberg has spoken at climate rallies in Stockholm, Helsinki, Brussels and London. In December 2018 she attended the United Nations COP24 in Katowice, Poland where she addressed the Secretary- General and made a plenary speech that went viral and was shared many million times.
- In January 2019, she was invited to the World Economic Forum in Davos.
- Thunberg tries to live a low-carbon life. Therefore, she is vegan, and she doesn’t fly. In 2019, TIME magazine named her Person of the Year as well as one of the world’s 100 most influential people.

CONTROVERSIES/CASES – Greta Thunberg’s tweet, a toolkit on farmer’s protest on Wednesday. She later deleted the tweet saying it was outdated and shared an updated post. ‘Toolkit’ that talked about protests across the world over the issue and detailed the actions taken to support the protests, has sparked controversy.
It all happened because of only one tweet. And many people have expose that it is all planned and organized the things that Greta accidently shares document regarding protest.
