In a new development in TRP scam case Bombay HC refused to quash the FIR and to give protection from the arrest of Republic Media Network Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami in TRP scam case.
However, the court directed Mumbai Police to first issue summons to Goswami if he is proposed to be added as accused.
A division bench of Justices S S Shinde and M S Karnik said if such a summons is issued then Goswami shall appear before the police and cooperate with the investigation.
The court also directed police to submit for its perusal investigation papers pertaining to the case in a sealed cover by November 5 when it would hear the matter.
Republic Media Network had approached the Bombay HC after the Supreme Court last week refused to entertain its petition to quash the FIR filed by Mumbai Police FIR in the alleged TRP scam.
The Counsel for Maharashtra Government is Kapil Sibal and counsel for Republic Media Network is Harish Salve.
On the interim order of protection from the arrest of Goswami, the bench said, “As on today, he is not an accused. So we do not think there is any reason to pass an interim order of protection.”
