Sessions Court while denying Bail said the accused performed acts “Defaming Femininity” in its detailed decision for an 18-year-old woman arrested in connection with a hate app case by the Mumbai Police.

Shweta Singh, who was detained in January in connection with the hate app case, was denied Bail on Friday.

Singh said that holding her in Detention served no purpose because she had cooperated with the Police, who had taken her Electronic Devices and Examined her Social Media Accounts as part of the investigation. She also claimed that the Police had assaulted her.

Singh was found to be operating Seven Twitter accounts and other mail accounts, as well as being in contact with the co-accused in the case, according to the police, who are opposing the Bail Plea.

It went on to say that the app had offensive content directed at Muslim women and that the accused had modified their Twitter usernames to appear to be from the Sikh Community.

While Singh’s Advocate argued that Freedom of Speech and Expression is a Constitutional right, the Court ruled that the Right is subject to Reasonable Limitations.

Co-accused Vishal Jha’s Bail application was also denied earlier this week for similar reasons. This Monday, the Mumbai Police filed a charge sheet in the case.
