The National Board of Examination allowed two pregnant candidates’ request for a change of exam centre for NEET-PG 2021, the Supreme Court was informed on Thursday.
A Bench comprising Justices UU Lalit, S Ravindra Bhat, and Bela M Trivedi disposed of the writ case filed by the candidates seeking the opportunity to shift centres based on this submission.
On August 31, the Bench issued a restricted notice exclusively in the case of two pregnant petitioners, petitioners 1 and 2.
Senior Advocate Kavin Gulati, standing for petitioners 1 and 2, informed the Bench today that the NBE has granted them permission to alter their centres.
Gulati went on to say that there is another petitioner who is in her ninth month of pregnancy and whose request for a change of centre should be granted as well.
Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh appearing for NBE assured the Bench that the request would be granted as well.
The Supreme Court dismissed the writ petition after noting that the petitioners’ request had been granted.
The candidates’ earlier choice of centre was based on their closest position to their centres as of April 18, 2021, according to the petition. It’s also worth noting that NEET PG 2021 was originally set on April 18, 2021, but was postponed and rescheduled for September 11, 2021.
It was also requested that the National Board of Examination be directed to provide the edit window for changing the centre with immediate effect.
The candidates were only notified of the specific location of the centre when the admit cards were distributed, according to the petition.
Doctors said in their Court filing that because of an increase in COVID cases, final year MBBS students were forced to register for bond service, and those who did so chose the facility based on their posting schedule, which changed after more than four months.
