REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT-
- Arjun Munda defused the tension that was created due to the “Domicile movement” in 2001–2002 and insisted that every citizen of India had the fundamental right granted by the Indian Constitution to live and work in any part of the country.
- During his tenure, Jharkhand got the 1st Lokayukta and the State successfully conducted the 34th National Games in 2011.
- A 32-year-long jinx was broken when Jharkhand scripted history by conducting panchayat elections and empowered PRIs for participatory governance.
- Introduced various schemes like Kanyadan Yojana ,Mukhya Mantri Ladli Laxmi Yojana ,Aapka-cm,Mukhya Mantri Dal Bhat Yojna and providing free laptops and tablets under Yuwa Kaushal Vikas Scheme launched in 2013.
AWARDS – The Ministry of Tribal Affairs was awarded the “Skoch Challenger Award” 2020 for the second consecutive year. The award has been received for outstanding work in e-governance.
Arjun Munda is a politician who belongs to Bharatiya Janta Party is the current Minister of Tribal Affairs.
BACKGROUND – Munda started his political career when he was in his teens, joining the Jharkhand movement spearheaded by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) during the early 80s. The party had sought to create a separate state for tribals from the southern regions of Bihar. He was very passionate about the welfare of the indigenous people of his region and was working actively for it.His political influence began to grow because of his inclusive philosophy and in 1995 he was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Kharsawan constituency on a JMM ticket.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – Arjun Munda was born in an economically backward family in Jamshedpur’s Khrangajhar on May 3, 1968. His father is late Ganesh Munda and mother Saira Munda. He completed his schooling from Jamshedpur itself and completed his graduation from Ranchi University. After securing this graduate degree, he also did his PG Diploma from IGNOU on Social Sciences.
WALK OF LIFE- When the NDA strongly supported the cause of Jharkhand and promised to create a separate tribal state, Munda joined the BJP. He contested the 2000 elections on a BJP ticket was again elected to the Bihar Assembly from his old constituency of Kharsawan. He was elected from the same constituency to the Jharkhand Assembly in 2005 and again in the 2011 by-election after becoming chief minister in 2010.
Munda was made Tribal Welfare Minister in the first Babulal Marandi-led NDA coalition government of Jharkhand. Through his performance and work ethic, his popularity grew and his support base further expanded. He was made CM of the state in 2003 at the young age of 35 in the aftermath of Babulal Marandi’s divisive domicile policy.
An MP from Khunti to the 17th Lok Sabha, he is currently serving as the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs in the second Modi Cabinet.
MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN-
- Tribes India e-Marketplace is an ambitious initiative through which TRIFED aims to onboard 5 lakh tribal producers for sourcing of various handicraft, handloom, natural food products across the country and brings to you the best of tribal produce.
- Inaugurated a special initiative with the aim to provide jobs to 30,000 tribals at the ‘4 per 1000 initiative: The initiative has been launched jointly with a German company named GIZ.the tribals would be making handcrafted pieces mostly of bamboo at Van Dhan centers. Products made from one bamboo can make tribals earn up to Rs 3000 in the long run after training is imparted to them.
- TRIBES INDIA joins Amazon Seller Flex program : With Tribes India now a part of the Seller Flex program, the cost of transporting TRIBES India goods to Amazon’s warehouses will be minimized which will allow our artisans and sellers greater control over their inventory.
- Strengthening PRIs’ will be launched in 5 districts covering 30 Gram Panchayats and 150 villages of Jharkhand, in creating awareness among elected representatives of PRI about various Tribal Acts and Rulesand different welfare schemes .These models will be volunteered by youths by giving personal development training.
- Training 10000 tribal farmers in Aurangabad District of Maharashtra on sustainable natural farming based on Go-Adharith farming techniques. Farmers will be helped in getting the Organic certification and the marketing opportunities will be made available to them to make each of them Atmanirbhar Tribal Farmers
POSITION HELD-
1995: He was Member, Bihar Vidhan Sabha from Kharsawan constituency with JMM candidate.
2000 : He was elected the Welfare Minister, Govt. of Jharkhand.
2000: Member, Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha for two terms from Kharsawan constituency as a BJP candidate.
2003: He was elected Chief Minister, Govt. of Jharkhand for two terms (2003-2006).
2006: Leader of Opposition, Jharkhand.
2009: Member, Standing Committee on Energy and Member, Consultative Committee on Social Justice & Empowerment.
2009: He was elected to 15th Lok Sabha.
2010: He was re-elected as CM of Jharkhand for a third term (2010-2013).
2019: In 2019 Lok Sabha elections he won the Kunti seat by a margin of 1400 votes. He was appointed as Minister of tribal affairs.
