A magisterial probe was ordered by the Karnataka Government to look into the violence that has taken place on Tuesday night in some parts of the city. The report is to be submitted within three months as per the directions issued by GN Shivamurthy, Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban. The State is trying to use the Uttar Pradesh government model to punish the culprits, which involves confiscating properties of the people involved in the violence and recover the damages.
The requirement of CID or a Special Investigation Team is recommended to probe into the matter, which was discussed by Home Minister Basavraj Bommai in a team meeting along with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. A similar investigation was ordered during the Mangaluru firing last December, during anti-CAA protests. Bommai said that the government wants to know about every possible factor resulting in this violence, be it political or any other anti-social involvement. The situation came into control after taking due help from the Centre. Six companies of Central Reserve Police Force, three each from Chennai and Hyderabad was given by the Union Home Ministry to get the situation under control.
Bommai also said that the CCTV footage of the area or any other supporting evidence will be taken into consideration to identify the culprits. Every loss/damage caused due to the violence will be recovered from the people involved. In case the person fails to pay the monetary compensation for the damages, his/her property will be confiscated as per the Supreme Court order. Revenue Minister, R Ashoka termed the violence as a well-planned act.
