Today President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent for the three bills passed by the Parliament. President signed three legislations regarding farm reforms passed by the Parliament has received the assent of the President.
The three legislations which get President assent today are:
1) Farmers’ Produce Trade & Commerce (Promotion & Facilitation) Act, 2020
2) Farmers (Empowerment & Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance & Farm Services Act, 2020
3) The Essential Commodities (AMENDMENT) Act, 2020
Major Political Parties including the former NDA alliance member Akali Dal and others are protesting against these Bills which have now become Legislations.
Modi Government is made legislation with the aim of major reform in Farm Sector. The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 aims to permit the sale of agricultural produce outside the mandis regulated by the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMC) constituted by different state legislations.
The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, provides for contract farming. The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020 deregulates the production, supply, distribution of food items like pulses, potatoes and etc.
