Directing the State Government to increase the number of vaccination doses, the Tripura High Court stated that people who have already received the first dose of their vaccines cannot be kept on waiting for an indefinite period to receive their second dose.
The direction comes after a Division Bench of Chief Justice Akil Kureshi and Justice S Talapatra observed that the people, who have taken their first dose, qualify for taking the second dose after completing 12 weeks or 4 weeks depending upon the vaccine they are taking.
Further, it was stated that about 14 lakhs of people have received their first dose but not the second dose and it is a matter of great concern which must not be ignored and thus directed the State Government to discuss the issue with the committee dealing with the aspect of allocation of vaccines.
The Court further stated that the 2 newspapers have explicitly quoted the National Health Mission Director making false claims in regards to the vaccination being received by the people.
The Court directed the officer responsible to make sure that the accurate data is being provided and necessary correction is made on the part of the press by pointing out the mistake in an official statement.
In conclusion, the Court stated that since the positivity rate of the people affected from Covid-19 has dropped in the State, necessary guidelines must be framed by the State Government.
