Dissatisfied with the provisions of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2021, the power sector employees and engineers have decided to protest against the passage of the Bill by the Central Government.
The 4-day ‘Satyagrah’ protest will be starting from today, at Jantar Mantar Delhi.
Against the unilateral announcement for bill passage by the Central Government, the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) will be organizing the protest.
The protest is scheduled for four days, where the power sectors employees of the Northern region will participate on August 3, the Eastern and the North-Eastern region will be present on August 4, the western region will show their disapproval on August 5, and the Southern region on August 6.
Subsequently, the power employees will be agitating against the bill with their full participation all over the country on August 10, where around 1.5 million employees will resort to a one-day strike.
Shailendra Dubey, Chairman of All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) said that “The protest is being supported by various organizations across the country as they wanted the bill to be thoroughly discussed in the ongoing monsoon session of the Parliament before it is passed as a law. We do not support the unilateral passage of the bill, as it will severely affect the employees of the power sector and common people.”
Dubey, representing the power employees, has claimed the new provisions in the bill to be anti-people and anti-employees that, if enacted in the current form, may have far-reaching adverse effects on the employees and the common people.
Dubey added that “Through the agitation, we want to condemn the Government’s unipartite approach to the amendments, and we do not want the bill to be rushed through both houses.”
