The Law Minister of India Kiren Rijiju stated in the Lok Sabha that there is a Litigation Policy which is being taken into consideration, for reduction of Cases in Courts. The Policy might provide for a more organized manner to control the number of Cases that the Courts would have to deal with.
The number of Cases that the Courts have to deal with is a matter of concern for Ministries and Departments vis-a-vis the Ministry of Railways and the Department of Revenues, who have taken up various steps to curb the high number of Cases.
The Ministry of Railways has ordered Zonal Railways and production units with directions that would keep a track of Court Cases at every level. The Railways and production units are ordered to take measures which would ensure reduction in number of Court Cases to lessen the burden on the Courts. All kinds of steps are going to be taken to reduce expenditure in Contesting Court Cases.
The Law Minister stated, “For achieving this, emphasis has been laid on effective monitoring of Cases by having regular meetings with empaneled Advocates, for Briefing and necessary directions to be given at the highest level, besides ensuring timely submission of Replies, Counter Replies and necessary Documents to the Advocates.”
Mr. Rijiju stated that the Legal Information Management and Briefing System (LIMBS) was formed with the motive of proper functioning and monitoring of Litigation of the Union of India. He stated that the Central Board of Direct Taxes and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs have developed certain measures for the reduction in number of Court Cases.
