REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT- Kiren Rijiju was awarded as the Best Young Parliamentarian by the Media during 14th Lok Sabha. He was recently designated by United Nations as Disaster Risk Champion for Asia Pacific Region for his keen efforts in the area of Disaster Management, thus being first Indian to be conferred with this Honour.

Kiren Rijiju is Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India. He has entered the Lok Sabha for the second time from the Arunchal (West) constituency of Arunachal Pradesh in India. He served on many important committees of Parliament in the 14th Lok Sabha.
He had more than 90% attendance record and an impressive regularity in raising questions of national and international importance and participating in key debates thus, he was duly adjudged as the “Best Young Parliamentarian” by the media.
Currently he is Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Minority Affairs in India.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – Kiren Rijiju was born in politically active family in Arunachal Pradesh to Sri Rinchin Kharu and Smt. Chirai Rijiju. His father was a leading speaker in the first pro-team speaker of Arunachal Pradesh to give oath to the Members of the first State Assembly.
He has been to many countries across the globe as a “youth leader” as well as member of various Parliamentary delegations. After doing his schooling from Arunachal, he did his BA (Hons) from the prestigious Hansraj College of Delhi University and followed it up with a law degree from the Faculty of Law, Delhi University.
WALK OF LIFE- Kiren Rijiju is also a member in the Standing Committee on Energy, the Consultative Committee on Petroleum & Gas and the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Tribal Affairs & Development of North Eastern Region. Prior to his election to the Lok Sabha he was a member in the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Government of India.
Recently, he was selected as a national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). He has awarded as the highest appointment such appointment in north east India. He has always been a hardworking, dedicated, committed and loyal worker.
MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN- Kiren Rijiju has been an active social worker since his school days and led various social movements as a social worker and student leader. He was member of youth and cultural team which participated in the “Festival of India in USSR” in the year 1987. He often participated in seminars in various countries and took part in Parliamentary Delegations to various countries.
CAREER TIMELINE/POSITION HELD- In 2004 Kiren Rijiju was elected to 14th Lok Sabha as a member of Standing Committee on Energy and member of Consultative Committee in Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Development of North Eastern Region. On August 2007, he was made a member of the Standing Committee on Energy. In May, 2014 he was re-elected to 16th Lok Sabha (2nd term).
From 27 May 2014 to 25 May 2019, he became Union Minister of State, Home Affairs. In May, 2019, he was re-elected to 17th Lok Sabha (3rd term). Finally, from 30 May 2019 onwards he became Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) in Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports; and Minister of State, Ministry of Minority Affairs.
CONTROVERSIES/CASES- In May 2016, Kiren Rijiju said the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru hurt the sentiments of the people of North-East during the 1962 war, drawing sharp reactions from the Congress.
In May 2015, Kiren Rijiju was quoted by a newspaper saying, “I eat beef, I’m from Arunachal Pradesh, can somebody stop me? So let us not be touchy about somebody’s practices.” The comment was in response to minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s utterance that those who want to eat beef should go to Pakistan. Later, Rijiju denied it by saying he was misquoted.
