In Turkey, a purported Marriage between Actor turned Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan and city-based businessman Nikhil Jain was pronounced legally Null by a Kolkata Court.
Jain filed a lawsuit at Alipore Court, asking for a Declaration that he and Ms Jahan had never Married.
“It is declared that the Alleged Marriage held on 19/06/2019 at Bodrum, Turkey in between the Plaintiff and the Defendant is not legally Valid,” Civil Judge S Roy of 2nd court, Alipore, ordered on Tuesday.
Mr. Jain’s claim that he and Ms. Jahan had a wedding party in front of their close friends and relatives was noticed by the Court in its order, “Following both Western and Indian style and rituals of Hindu marriage.”
However, the Marriage was never registered in Turkey.
Mr Jain stated that after returning to India, they began living together, but their Relationship deteriorated and that she was unwilling to continue the Relationship.
It was also Alleged that the Suit’s parties, one of whom was a Hindu and the other a Muslim, were never Married under the Special Marriage Act, and thus “Their Consensual Union cannot be treated as a Marriage.”
“Considering all aspects of the suit and in view of the admission made on part of the Defendant, the Court is of the opinion that the alleged Marriage between the parties to the suit is not Legally Valid,” the Court directed, disposing of the suit.
