The Indian delegation will be led by the Solicitor General of India (SG), Tushar Mehta, during the United Nations Human Rights Council’s (UNHRC) 41st Session of Universal Periodic Review (UPR), which is scheduled to take place in Geneva from November 7 to November 18.
India’s national report will be evaluated on November 10 as part of a peer review of all nations’ performance in advancing human rights.
Senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, Women and Child, Social Justice and Empowerment, Minority Affairs, NITI Aayog, and the Vice Chancellor of the National Law University, Delhi will also be included in the delegation in addition to SG Mehta.
According to the press release, India’s national report, which was submitted on August 5, 2022, outlines the steps the country has made to advance and defend human rights, including the implementation of the recommendations it accepted during the third UPR cycle, which took place in 2017.
After extensive consultations with several stakeholders, including members of the judiciary, a national human rights institution academia, civil society organisations, and the general public, the national report was created.
