Amid the Russian Invasion in Ukraine, Petitions have been filed seeking the Evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine. Concerning these Petitions, Attorney General of India, KK Venugopal submits that around 22,500 Indian Students have been Evacuated.
The Issue of the Continuation of Education of the Students is being looked up to by the Government of India, submits KK Venugopal.
Both the Petitions filed concerning Evacuation of the Nationals were closed by a Bench of Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, and Justice Krishna Murari after recording the Submission of KK Venugopal.
Advocate Vishal Tiwari who appeared as a Petitioner submitted that something has to be done to safeguard the Career of the Students who have been brought back.
NV Ramana then asked the Attorney General of India if the Government is Considering the Aspect of Continuation of Education.
The Attorney General of India replied,
“Government is looking into it and will take a Decision. They have made Representations to the Government.”
The Bench notes,
“Both these Writ Petitions were filed seeking Reliefs. AG has made Submissions, all Students are brought back to India and nothing Survives. Petitioner Counsel submits that Government has to consider Studies of Students who’ve not completed their Studies due to the War. Attorney General of India submits Government is considering this Issue. This is accordingly Closed.”
While providing reference to the previous Evacuation Operations like during the Kuwait War, the Attorney General of India submits that 17,000 Students have already been Evacuated and assured the Bench that Government is capable of Rescuing the Citizens.
In Fathima Ahana Mohamed Ashraf Vs Union of India and Vishal Tiwari Vs. Union of India, the Petitions seek the Evacuation of stranded Students and Families from Ukraine and the Official Recognition of MBBS Degree of the Indian Students who have studied from Ukraine, so that they may not lose their Career.
The Plea further states,
“The Government has Responsibility to Protect the Life and Liberty of its Citizens Guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India not only in its Country but in Foreign Countries also, especially when the Citizens are helpless and all mode of Transports are Shutdown. Government has to take and adopt several Diplomatic Measures.”
