On December 17, 2021, Bharat Bhushan Kataria was Arrested by the Delhi Police who is Accused of planting a bomb under his neighbor’s car in order to Kill him. The Bomb planted by him caused a blast in Rohini District Court in Delhi.
The 47-year-old Scientist of Defense Research and Development Organization lived in the same building as the target Amit Vashist, in Ashok Vihar. The two has several ongoing disputes among which a Criminal complaint was also filed by Mr. Vashist against Mr. Kataria over a dispute on common terrace.
On the day of the Blast, the Rohini District Court was about to hear the framing of charges against Mr. Kataria.
In the blast, Mr. Vashist suffered shock and an Injury on his left leg and a Constable named Rajeev also suffered from an Injury on his left shoulder and foot. The Bomb was kept in tiffin box in a black laptop bag and was triggered using a remote control. The bomb was detonator of 12-volt two-wheeler battery.
Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana stated, “Serious damages could have happened had the explosion taken place in the charged explosive material. Some new iron screws and shrapnel were used in the IED.”
Mr. Asthana also stated, “Kataria’s protracted legal battles with the lawyer appears to the motive behind his crime. However, we are probing other aspects in the case as well. The investigating team has collected many incriminating materials related to the incident from Kataria’s house.”
