After being felt that he was wrongly charged, he approached the Consumer’s Court, where he demanded Rs 25,000 for mental harassment and another Rs 25,000 for depositing in the Consumer Welfare Fund.
The retailer argued that the bags aren’t for free and customers aren’t forced to buy the bags. He further contended that a notice is also placed at the cash counter which makes it very clear.
The complainant’s lawyer replied that the notice was not placed at the time when the complainant came to the retailers’ shop and might have placed it afterwards.
The Court allowed the consumer’s plea and directed the retailer to pay Rs 1,000 for mental harassment and Rs 500 for the legal cost and said that the retailer should pay the amount of Rs 1,500 within a month.
