China has issued its most comprehensive warning against the excessive-work culture that saturates the country’s largest corporations, using real and richly detailed Court disputes to address a growing backlash against the punishing demands of the private sector.
The Supreme People’s Court, ministry of human resources and social security had published an essay on Friday. The essay was written on labor violations and unreasonable overtime during work.
It includes several cases which shows how employees are forced to work overtime, the common working time is 9 am to 9 pm for six days a week that why it is called ‘996’ work culture.
China’s increasingly profitable tech giants are dealing with public outrage over their working hours schedules, the disappointment was also seen on the social media.
“It’s a good sign that the Supreme Court is finally paying attention. This is about politics as much as it’s about rule of law given the recent crackdowns on companies like Alibaba and Meituan,” said Suji Yan, a startup founder who helped initiate the GitHub campaign.
China’s human resources ministry and the Courts have decided to develop a specific guidelines so that future labor disputes can be resolved .
“The overtime issues at some industries and companies have come to the public’s attention,” the Court stated this on its notice.
