The chief police magistrate Court in Jagdalpur, South Chhattisgarh has rejected the bail plea for 8 persons. Each one of these persons was arrested after tiger skin and bones were confiscated from them recently. Judge Balram Dewangan has dismissed the bail plea of the accused because the killing of a tiger, the national animal of the country, and a member of an endangered species is a grave offense.
The eight accused include 5 policemen and 2 government health workers.
The judge stated further: “The accused hold government post which they had misused. The declining tiger population already remains a matter of concern,”
All the accused have been sent to Judicial Remand.
The latest official reports have showed a massive decline in the big-cat-population of the state over 4 years. Regrettably, the forest department has admitted that the current situation is nothing but dire.
