Bhupendra Patel, a first-term Member of the Legislative Assembly, took oath as the 17th Chief Minister of Gujarat on Monday, two days after Vijay Rupani’s unexpected exit from the Post of Gujarat’s Chief Minister.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, as well as the Chief Ministers of various States attended the Raj Bhavan ceremony.
According to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sources, only Patel took the oath of office. The Council of Ministers will take their oaths in the coming days as their names are not yet finalised.
The Governor had on Sunday invited Patel to take oath as Chief Minister.
The new leader of the BJP’s Legislature Party, Bhupendrabhai Patel, presented a proposal to form a Government under his leadership. Accepting the proposal, the Governor invited him to take the oath as Chief Minister of Gujarat on September 13.
The suggestion to elect Patel as legislative party leader was presented at Sunday’s legislature party meeting by Vijay Rupani, who resigned the post of Gujarat’s CM on Saturday, 15 months before the Assembly elections.
