A court in Argentina ruled that the body of the late soccer legend Diego Maradona must be conserved.
The court said that his DNA might be of use in the case of a paternity test.
Maradona died of a heart attack last month. His body is buried in a cemetery near Buenos Aires.
Maradona’s lawyer informed that the player’s DNA samples are already conserved.
To which the court said that the former player’s body must not be cremated.
Six children with filiation requests are involved in the inheritance process and five recognized ones.
Magali Gil, one of the six, said that she found two years ago that Maradona was her biological father.
“Ms. Gil requests that a study be carried out … and that for this purpose the acting prosecutor’s office send a DNA sample,” said the National Court of First Instance in Civil Matters No. 56.
