Justices M.R. Shah and B.V. Nagarathna’s Bench stated that funds from the SDRF cannot be transferred to another account or used for any other purpose, and that it would be appropriate to return the transferred funds to the SDRF.
The senior adviser, Mr. R. Basant, who was speaking on behalf of the state, stated that he needed more time to get guidance on this.
In contrast to the evidence Mr. Bansal submitted about the complaints of four claimants who have not received COVID-19 compensation, Mr. Basant informed the court that as of the hearing date, the payment had already been made.
In light of this, the court remarked, “so far as the four persons identified in the supplemental affidavit are concerned, Mr. Basant has testified at the Bar that all four have been paid compensation by this point.”
Following Supreme Court’s criticism, the State of Andhra Pradesh on Monday agreed to revert the amount of Rs 1100 crores -which was diverted from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) to the personal deposit (PD) account of the Agriculture Commissioner – to the SDRF within a period of two weeks.
