Amid Covid-19 outbreak, Nepal’s political crisis took a dramatic turn after President Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the parliament and announced fresh elections in November.
The parliament stands dissolved and mid-term polls are to be held on 12 November and 19 November in line with Article 76(7) of the Constitution of the Nepal.
Bhandari’s announcement comes after neither the Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, nor the opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba was able to demonstrate a majority to form a government.
The decision was made on the recommendation of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Oli, whose dissolution of parliament in December 2020 sparked weeks of protests and was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme court later.
Till now there is no immediate move or announcement made by any of the political parties.
