Families of five Indian seafarers have reached the High Court of Delhi to give directions to the Ministry of External Affairs to take up the issue with the Iranian Government and send them back to their country.
These five seafarers were given assurance of job in UAE. They were brought to Iran and were given menial duties. One day, a raid was conducted on the vessel by Iranian authorities, all these seafarers were arrested with the captain in the offence of conspiracy to smuggle narcotics in the deep sea.

They all were acquitted in the conspiracy case. The plea further seeks orders on the Centre for providing reliefs such as medical and financial assistance, boarding and lodging and consular services till the time they are repatriated.
The plea also places reliance on representations made to the Ministry of External Affairs and Embassy of India in Tehran and also on a video message dated July 10, 2021, requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the matter.
