The Delhi High Court, division bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rekha Palli heard a Public Interest Litigation which sought an increase in the number of Covid-19 tests in Delhi and speeding up results.
This PIL was filed by advocate Rakesh Malhotra.
Counsel Satyakam, representing the Delhi government stated that they had an expert committee working on it who was keeping a check on the post-COVID-19 complications.
The Delhi High Court noted that the parties that participated in the proceedings did so in a non-adversarial manner.
Justice Vipin Sanghi stated that the expert committee would look into the matter and further stated that the Delhi government would work towards the implementation of the orders in the post-corona complications.
The judge added that the purpose of the plea is served as the number of cases has reduced.
The Court on the other hand directed the Delhi government to formulate SOPs to deal with the post-COVID-19 complications and to make sure that there were facilities available for the people from the UK, where a new strain of COVID-19 has emerged.
The bench comprising Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium Prasad had previously stated, “Keeping in mind the recent decision of the Central government of suspending flights from UK to India till December 31 due to an apprehension of transmission of a coronavirus variant that can spread very fast and the fact that a large number of persons had flown into Delhi before suspension of flights from UK, Delhi government shall ensure prompt and adequate testing and follow up in respect of those found positive with all seriousness to avoid another spate of infection in the city,”
