Vellamvelly Muraleedharan is the current Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs. He is politically affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party.
BACKGROUND – V Muraleedharan was born to Gopalan Vannathan Veettil and Devaki Namballi Vellam Velli. He’s married to Dr. K.S. Jayasree, a Sanskrit lecturer at Sree Narayana College, Nattika, Kerala.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION – V Muraleedharan hails from Eranholi, Thalassery in Kannur District. He did his schooling from Kodakkalam UP School and high schooling from St Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Thalassery. He did his graduation in English literature from Government Brennen College, Thalassery.
WALK OF LIFE– V MURALEEDHARAN was a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad from his school days. During the emergency of 1975, he was involved politically. He was the Secretary and the State Joint Secretary of ABVP in the year 1979 and 1980 respectively. At the age of 25, he was the State Organizing Secretary of ABVP in the year 1983.
He also served as the All-India Secretary of ABVP from the year 1987 to 1990. He was deputy assistant of Venkaiah Naidu in the Lok Sabha elections of 1998. He was appointed as the Vice-Chairman of Nehru Yuva Kendra under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports in the year 1999. He was the Bharatiya Janata Party Kerala state Vice President from the year 2006 to 2010.
For the first time, he contested the Kozhikode Parliamentary Constituency elections in 2009. In April 2018 he got elected as the Member of Parliament of Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra. He became the Minister of State External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs in May 2019.
MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN- Under the leadership of V Muraleedharan, various initiatives were taken such as All Women Passport Seva Kendras, Labour and Manpower Cooperation agreements with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to discuss various labor-related issues women workers in the GCC region.
