REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT- On 19 may 2016 Sarbananda Sonowal won the assembly election from Majuli constituency and he became CM of Assam, the first CM of the state from BJP. In 2021 he was re-elected to assam vidhan sabha from Majuli.

BACKGROUND- Sarbananda Sonowal was the president of assam oldest student body, all Assam student union (ASSU) from 1992 to 1999. Then he became the member of Asom Gana Parishad. In 2001 he was elected as a MLA from Moran Constituency.
In 2004 he became a member of dibrugarh University. In 2009 he lost the election from dibugarh. He joined BJP in 2011. In 2012 he was appointed president of BJP Assam unit and also a member of party’s nation as executive.
In 2014 he was appointed head of Assam’s state lok sabha election by BJP and in the same year he was made member of parliament. He was then appointed cabinet minister in Modi government.
In 2016 he was made CM candidate he won the election from Majuli and was made CM of Assam. The first chief minister of BJP in Assam.
MAJOR INITIATIVES- He played a great role in removing Illegal migrant determination of tribunal act, 1963 as unconstitutional. The Supreme Court said that “the Bangladesh national’s who have illegally entered or crossed the border has no legal right to remain in India.
