BACKGROUND: Rameswar Teli was born in Duliajan, Assam to Budhu Teli and Dulka Teli. His family belonged to the tea garden community of Assam.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION: Rameswar Teli completed his education from Tipling Ghat High School, Boragadhai. His father was a driver. As a teenager, he used to sell yam and fern in order to buy snacks.
WALK OF LIFE: Rameswar Teli was elected to Lok Sabha from Dibrugarh (Lok Sabha region) in the 2014 national elections. He was elected to the Assam Assembly in 2001-2006 and 2006-2011 from Duliajan in the Dibrugarh region.
He was defeated in the 2011 general election by almost 3000 votes cast in favor of Amiya Gogoi. In the general election in India, in 2014 he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Dibrugarh region. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced Rameswar Teli to his cabinet, excitement filled Assam.

2014-He was a member of the Consultative Committee under the Department of Development of the North East Region. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Industry. He was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha constituency from Dibrugarh constituency as a candidate for Bharatiya Janata Party.
2016– Became a member of the Community Service Committee.
2019– He contested and won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Dibrugarh region by more than 80,000 votes. In May 2019, Teli became the Minister of State for the Food Processing Industry.
