REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT- Anil Vij was the first candidate to be announced as winner during the Haryana Assembly elections in October 2019.

BACKGROUND –

Anil Vij is the Home Minister of Haryana. His other portfolios are Urban Local Bodies, Health, Medical Education & Research, AYUSH, Technical Education and Science, Technology.

Anil Vij had become MLA from the Ambala Cantt. constituency for the 5th time. He is also among the permanent invitees to the BJP National Executive.

Anil Vij was born in Ambala Cantt., Haryana. Vij joined Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student wing of RSS, while he was studying at S. D. College, Ambala Cantt. He also worked in State Bank of India. Now he is a full time politician.

MAJOR INITIATIVES – Mukhymantri Muft Ilaaj Yojana (MMIY) was launched by Anil vij in 2014.

CAREER TIMELINE/ POSITIONS HELD –1970 – Became General Secretary of ABVP

1974 – Joined the State Bank of India.

1990 – Resigned from State Bank India service and won a by-election from Ambala Cantt. by the BJP party.

1991 – Became State President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

1996 & 2000 – Won elections as an independent candidate.

2005 – Lost re-election.

2009 – Was elected as BJP’s MLA from Ambala Cantonment constituency in the Haryana Legislative Assembly.

2014 – Was again elected as BJP’s MLA from Ambala Cantonment and became Home Minister of Haryana.

2019 – Was again elected for the fifth time as BJP’s MLA from Ambala Cantonment. He is currently the Home as well as Health minister of Haryana.

CONTROVERSIES/CASES –

On March 4, 2014, Vij was suspended from the Assembly for making unwanted remarks against a female minister in the house. During his speech on Appropriation Bill in the assembly, he made some comments against Geeta Bhukkal, then Education Minister of Haryana.

He was asked to apologize but he didn’t. So the then Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala moved a resolution against the supposed remarks and Vij was criticized and also suspended for the contempt of the house.
