The Supreme Court bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli denied any stay in the upcoming NEET PG counselling, which is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2022.The bench made an oral remark clarifying that it would not intervene in the matter.
Justice Chandrachud quoted:
“We’ll not interfere. Let the NEET PG counselling go through. Don’t stall it anymore. We cannot put the students in jeopardy.”
A writ petition was filed before the court highlighting major discrepancies in the marks of students who appeared for the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBE).
The answer key and question paper for NEET-PG 2022 have not yet been released. It was filed by doctors, having completed their MBBS course and registered under the State Medical Council.
They have requested the court to issue directions to NBE:
- To release the question paper and answer key for NEET-PG 2022;
- Provide options to the candidates to re-evaluate their paper to declare Clause 9.7 and 10.4 unconstitutional;
- Permit candidates to challenge answer keys;
- OMR, on an individual basis be released;
- RTI be permitted for the disclosure of all these details.
The plea urges that the Court form a High Power Committee in this regard.
However, the court denied any interference in the upcoming counselling.
