SC issues notice to Rajasthan Assembly Speaker over merger of six BSP MLAs with Congress

The Supreme Court with its two-judge bench of Justices S Abdul Nazeer and K M Joseph sought answers from the Rajasthan Assembly Speaker on the pleas concerning the merger of six BSP MLAs with the ruling party- Congress in the state.

The first plea, filed by BSP, sought to do away with the order given to by the Rajasthan High Court on August 24th to the Speaker of the House about their disqualification of the BSP MLAs who had defected with the congress which in itself was caused by a plea were filed by a BJP MLA- Madan Dilawar.

While the HC in the case had dismissed the petition, it got from BSP on the matter it said the party was free to file one to the speaker. Additionally, on the subject the top court declared on 7th January itself that Dilawar’s plea was unnecessary and pointless.

The top court along with the notice to the speaker also gave notices to the MLAs concerned in the case and the Assembly Secretary.

The merger was definitely in the favour of the Ashok Gehlot headed Congress regime in Rajasthan as the merger gave them 100 seats in a house of 200 MLAs.
