On Tuesday, the Kerala High Court declined to halt the screening of the controversial film “The Kerala Story,” and scheduled a hearing for May 5th. The court received a writ petition requesting a suspension of the film’s screening until its inaccuracies were removed.

A Division Bench of Kerala High Court of Justices N. Nagaresh and C.P. Muhammad Nias posted the case for May 5. Court said, A writ petition sought to stall the screening of the movie till factually incorrect contents were removed from it.

The petitioner, V.R. Anoop, argued that although the film was based on actual events, its teaser and trailer contained statements that were far from the truth.

The film allegedly depicts a story of Hindu and Christian girls who were trapped in “love jihad” by Islamic groups and then converted to Islam, after which they were trafficked to Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

The petitioner claimed that the teaser of the movie incorrectly stated that 32,000 women were converted and deployed in terror missions. He argued that the film promoted hate propaganda against the Muslim community and the state, and several aggrieved individuals had sought a ban on its release.
