Lee Myung-bak, former president of South Korea has been found guilty and now punished for life imprisonment over corruption charges by the top court of South Korea.
He has been found guilty for the corruption scandals that occurred during 2008-13 during his tenure as President.
The Supreme Court also upheld the lower court judgement that imposed 13 billion won ($10.9 million) in fines and forfeit another 5.78 billion won ($4.6 million) for his crimes, court officials said. 8t is interesting to note that the ruling by the top court is final and cannot be appealed.
He has been found guilty of misusing the spy funds, taking bribes from various MNCs including Samsung and misappropriated corporate funds as well.
He was awarded as the first President from business background and is also credited to make the country’s economy top notch. Lee’s corruption case erupted after his successor and fellow conservative Park Geun-hye was ousted and sent to jail over a separate 2016-17 scandal.
He began his business career with an entry-level job at Hyundai Group’s construction arm in the mid-1960s, before he rose to CEO of 10 companies under Hyundai Group and led the group’s rapid rise.
