A Delhi Court today rejected three bail pleas of former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor, Tahir Hussain on the grounds that the witnesses residing in the same locality might be intimidated by him.
Tahir was arrested on March 16 this year in relation to the North-East Delhi riots in which at least 53 people got killed and many got injured.
The incident happened in February. Tahir has been in judicial custody ever since his arrest.
Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav noted that “…at the time of eruption of communal riots in the area(s) of northeast Delhi, the applicant has been in a powerful position and it is prima facie apparent that he used his muscle power and political clout to act as a kingpin in planning, instigating and fanning the flames of the communal conflagration.”
Apart from these 3 cases, Tahir has been accused in 8 other matters of a similar nature.
The Counsel representing Tahir have submitted that he has been falsely implicated for political agendas of opposition. He has been caught up in a political cross-fire and is being subject to a political blame-game.
Special Public Prosecutor Manoj Chaudhary has opined that the accused’s call records show that he was present in or around the scene and is guilty of using people as human weapons.
He further contemplated that his role was totally different from other accused that have been granted bail because he was the main conspirator in the matter.
