Viacom18 has successfully secured a dynamic injunction order from the Delhi High Court to safeguard its ongoing reality shows, including the immensely popular Bigg Boss series, from copyright infringement.
This order empowers Viacom18 to take action against copyright violators and rogue websites, ensuring the protection of their valuable content.
Bigg Boss, known for its unique format where contestants from diverse backgrounds cohabit and face challenges to win the coveted prize, is broadcast on the Viacom18 network through its COLORS branded Hindi and regional channels and the JioCinema OTT app.
The Delhi High Court, recognizing the widespread popularity of these shows in India, has acknowledged Viacom18’s rights to protect its content. In its recent order, the court directed rogue and pirate websites to be suspended or blocked by domain name registrars responsible for those sites.
The injunction order extends to specific rogue websites mentioned in the suit, and it further instructs Internet Service Providers (ISPs), the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeITy) to block access to such websites.
Moreover, the order permits Viacom18 to include any additional websites infringing on the “Bigg Boss” name in their domain and extends the injunction to cover these websites as well.
This comprehensive legal action is aimed at curbing piracy and safeguarding Viacom18’s substantial investments in the production and broadcast of these highly-watched reality shows.
The dynamic injunction order provides Viacom18 with the tools to enforce its exploitation and broadcasting rights, ensuring that any infringements are addressed promptly. Anil Lale, General Counsel at Viacom18, expressed appreciation for the court’s proactive stance, emphasizing the court’s recognition of the content’s value and the need to combat piracy effectively.
He stated, “The issuance of this Dynamic Injunction Order underscores the court’s profound recognition of the inherent value of content and the pressing need to combat piracy in real-time. The proactive stance taken by the Honourable court provides invaluable support in our continuing fight against piracy.”
This legal victory reinforces Viacom18’s commitment to protecting its intellectual property and creative works from unauthorized distribution.
