A Court in Maharashtra’s Thane issued a Show-Cause Notice to renowned Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar in connection with a Defamation Suit filed against him by an RSS Activist Vivek Champanerkar over his alleged remarks comparing the organization with the Taliban.
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate issued the notice returnable on November 12, 2021.
Javed Akhtar triggered a controversy earlier this month when he told a News Channel that, “Right wing all over the world has an uncanny similarity. The Taliban want an Islamic country. These people want to make a Hindu Rashtra.”
The former Member of Parliament said so without taking name of the Nagpur- Headquartered Hindutva organization.
Advocate Aditya Mishra, appeared for the Complainant argued in the Court that the Defendant has made ‘Derogatory’ remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Meanwhile, the Petitioner Vivek Champanerkar in his Petition submitted that the statements made by Akhtar were aimed at belittling the RSS’s image in the eyes of the common public.
