The Artificial Intelligence (AI) committee of the Supreme Court has been identified as a valuable tool for monitoring pending cases, with a particular emphasis on addressing older matters and cases involving senior citizens, women, and marginalized communities, according to information shared in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal conveyed in a written response that the Supreme Court has harnessed AI technology since February, primarily for transcribing oral arguments in Constitution Bench matters.
As of now, the AI technology has been employed in nearly 10 main Constitution Bench matters to generate transcripts of arguments.
These transcripts are subsequently made available to the public through the official website of the Supreme Court.
The government, through Meghwal, highlighted that the AI tool’s application is currently in a trial phase and is exclusively limited to Constitution Bench matters at present.
This strategic use of technology is expected to enhance efficiency in case tracking and administration, particularly in complex and long-pending legal issues.
