The Supreme Court today issued notice in a PIL filed by All India High Court Employees Federation seeking methods to examine and create an appropriate pay structure and emoluments to the High Court employees across India.
A Division Bench comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and Sanjiv Khanna stated that “We are issuing notice to all the parties and tagging the matter with other similar petitions”.
The members of the Petitioner Federation pleaded that they do not have a uniform pay structure and that they has always faced discrimination with regard to determination of their pay, allowances as well as the working conditions amongst them.
The Plea stated that “The pay scales determined by the State Government or Central Government for its employees are made applicable to the staff of the High Court even when the nature of duty performed by the staff of the High Court is very different from the duties carried out by the employees of the State or Central government. Also this results in disparity of pay and other working conditions among the employees of High Courts.”
The PIL filed by the Federation also requested the Bench to refer to the case of employees of the High Court from all across India to the commission which was headed by Justice P. Venkatarama Reddi.
They also requested that the Bench look into their current working environment and suggest some changes that can be made to improve the same.
The next hearing by the Bench on this matter will be on 7th September 2021.
