The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition filed by the residents of Sonipat, Haryana regarding the blocked highways of the Singhu Border due to the farmer’s protest.
The decision was taken by Justice DY Chandrachud.
Advocate Abhimanyu Bhandari representing the petitioners stated before the Court that the protest at the Singhu Border is intervening with the people’s Right to Movement.
Mr Abhimanyu demanded that at least one side of the highway should be cleared for the people to move freely as it has been ordered by the Apex Court that interstate and national highways cannot be blocked completely.
The Court then observed that “There is no need for us to intervene when high courts are well versed with the local conditions and what is happening. We should trust HC’s”.
While rejecting the plea the Court directed the petitioners to file a petition before the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
