The Supreme Court has denied quashing the FIRs registered against journalist Amish Devgan for his remarks against Moinuddin Chishti, a Sufi saint.

However, a bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar & Sanjiv Khanna transferred all the FIRs registered against journalist Amish Devgan to Ajmer.

The July 8 stay on investigation and coercive action against the journalist will continue.

Based on alleged demeaning remarks that Amish Devgan made against Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chishti on his prime time show, telecast on June 15, as many as 7 FIRs have been filed against him in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Telangana.

Amish had labelled Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, well recognized as Khwaja Ghreeb Nawaz, an “attacker” and “lootera.”

Several police complaints and FIRs were filed against the anchor after the telecast of his show.

Advocate Vivek Jain, representing Devgan, sought quashing of FIRs filed against Devgan which have invoked sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs),

Devgan had also profusely apologized for referring to the Sufi Saint as a “lootera” and called it an “inadvertent error.”
