Supreme Court will hear Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s interim bail petition on Thursday. The Rampur MP had petitioned the Supreme Court for interim bail in order to run in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections in 2022.
Rampur MP has been imprisoned in Sitapur Jail since February 2020, completed the nomination process from within the prison, and his nomination papers were filed on January 27 by his lawyer in Rampur.
100 Cases have been filed against the Samajwadi Party MP, some of which are still pending in court. In most of the cases, the senior SP leader has obtained bail. Khan, on the other hand, has yet to obtain bail in the case of a merger of enemy property with Jauhar University and another case.
The Rampur Assembly election will be contested by Congress’ Nawab Kazim Ali and Azam Khan, while the Surar Assembly segment will be contested by Haider Ali KhanAbdullah Azam was released on bail from the Sitapur jail in January 2022 after being imprisoned for nearly 23 months. He was charged with 43 different crimes, ranging from Theft to Extortion and Forgery.
Tazeen Fatima, Azam’s wife and a co-accused in many of the cases, was granted bail last year and will be released from the Sitapur jail in December 2020.
