A Special Court has denied bail to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s flatmate Siddharth Pithani, stating that he is not entitled to be released at this stage.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained Pithani in May in connection with a narcotics case filed after the actor’s death last year.
The Court stated, “Considering the gravity of the matter and the seriousness of the offences, as evidenced by the investigating officer, as well as independent evidence in the form of statements recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The Court is of the opinion that the applicant is not entitled to be released on bail at this stage.”
Pithani’s counsel claimed that there was no evidence against him under Section 27A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 which deals with financing illicit drug trafficking.
The Counsel also cited a decision of the Bombay High Court granting bail to co-accused Rhea Chakraborty on the scope of the section.
The NCB claimed that it had recorded the statements of Sushant’s other staffers and had evidence, including monetary transactions worth Rs. 4 lakh, to show activities related to drug trafficking.
