The Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organization of India filed a PIL against a Wikipedia article that it believed to be defamatory, however the Supreme Court declined to take it up on Friday.
The bench comprising Justices AS Bopanna and PS Narasimha orally observed, “You can edit the Wikipedia article.”
The counsel representing the organization submitted that they have edited certain part given in the plea.
The bench release the order, “We see no reason to entertain the petition filed under Article 32….however the parties may avail other remedies available in the law”
The plea brought the matter against the article published on Wikipedia termed Ayurveda as a pseudoscientific. Further the plea mentioned the article provided on Wikipedia unnecessary and with ill intention to sully Ayurveda.
The petition said that “The matter of concern is that this is utterly absurd, poorly researched and prejudiced article pops up as the first article when Ayurveda is searched on Google”
According to the petition, the article’s contents harm the image of Ayurveda, which has been constructed over time by consistent, committed study and practice.
