The Supreme Court dismissed the petition by International Car Manufacturer Skoda Volkswagen seeking to quash an FIR registered by UP Police about the cheat emissions devices installed in vehicles.
In October 2020, the Allahabad Court dismissed Volkswagen India’s plea.
The petition was filed in the Apex Court against the High Court order.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, that the FIR involved the same allegations of cheat emission devices over which the National Green Tribunal had already imposed a fine in 2019.
He further submitted that the SC has held on to the NGT’s fine order.
Lastly, he stated that the FIR was involving the personal allegations of his client for cheating by the car manufacturer.
The Supreme Court bench headed by the Chief Justice had reserved its order on November 4.
