A senior Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientist, Bharat Bhushan Kataria, who was Arrested in connection with the recent blast inside the Rohini Court, attempted Suicide while still being in Police Custody.
On December 17, the Accused after being questioned by Delhi Police’s Special Cell was Arrested and was being kept in Police custody. The next day, he was found lying unconscious on the floor of the bathroom after allegedly consuming liquid hand wash. He was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and from there he was referred to AIIMS.
A senior Police Officer stated that the Accused denied having consumed anything but the Doctors confirmed the consumption of liquid hand wash. He also added that the Accused condition was completely stable, all his vitals were normal, and will be discharged soon.
The Police also stated, that the Accused is misleading and manipulating the Investigation team. He is uncooperative and is using all his knowledge of the system to evade questioning.
He allegedly planted an improvised explosive device (IED) in a tiffin box inside the Court on December 09, with an intention to harm his neighbour who was also present at the Court that day. Apparently, he and his neighbour have a long-standing dispute and have filed multiple Civil and Criminal complaints against each other. The IED was not properly assembled and led to a low-intensity explosion in Courtroom no-107, Naib Court, Injuring one Constable.
