The creators behind the Rajinikanth-led movie “Jailer” have assured the Delhi High Court that they will digitally revise scenes depicting a contract killer wearing the jersey of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricket team [Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited v Sun Pictures, a Division of Sun TV Network Ltd and Anr].
Sun Pictures, the film’s production company, confirmed that the alterations would be carried out prior to the movie’s broadcast on television, satellite, or any Over-The-Top (OTT) platform to remove the portrayal of the killer in the RCB jersey.
The amendments to the theatrical version are expected to be finalized by September 1, as disclosed to the Court.
“The Defendants and all related parties, including their distribution network, shall abide by the above-mentioned terms and conditions. Effective from September 1, 2023, the RCB team jersey depiction in the film ‘Jailer’ shall be edited/modified.
The Defendants will ensure that after September 1, 2023, none of the theaters will display the RCB jersey in any form. In terms of television, satellite, or any OTT platform, the altered film version shall be broadcasted/telecasted prior to its release,” the Court ruled.
Justice Prathiba M Singh presided over the case brought by Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited, the owner of RCB.
RCB asserted that the movie “Jailer” features a scene where a contract killer dons the RCB jersey and makes derogatory and misogynistic remarks about a woman character.
The complaint alleged unauthorized use of the RCB jersey in a negative context within the film, potentially tarnishing the RCB brand’s image and harming its brand reputation, as well as infringing on the rights of its sponsors.
Justice Singh recorded the undertaking and dismissed the plea.
