Social media giants, Google, Facebook and WhatsApp learned and shared details of compliance officers as per the new social media rules by Information and Technology department after 2 days of notice sent by the Government.
Though Twitter is yet to share details, the platform has already named a lawyer as its grievance officer.
Other social media intermediaries having 5 million users or more have also shared their details with the Ministry.
The new rules came into effect on 26 May thereby requiring social media platform to appoint necessary officers, act in due diligence and adopt features like traceability of messages and voluntary user verification.
