Supreme Court of Nepal issued a show-cause notice to the Government of Nepal in regards with seeking an explanation pertaining to the release of the infamous Serial Killer Charles Sobhraj from Prison.
The Nepal Supreme Court in the show-cause Notice sought a clarification as to why the Serial Killer Sobhraj has not been released from prison and why he should not be released from the prison after serving 18 years out of the 21 years of Imprisonment he was sentenced to.
A Single-Judge Bench of the Nepal Supreme Court comprising of Justice Anil Kumar Sinha who issued the show-cause Notice sought the aforementioned explanation in response to a Petition filed by the lawyer of the 77-year-old Serial Killer Charles Sobhraj. The Petition sought the release on grounds of old age of the Convict.
The lawyers of Charles Sobhraj comprising of Advocate Saroj Ghimire and Shakuntala Thapa argued in the Supreme Court on his behalf requesting for his release, in response to which the Apex Court of Nepal directed the Government to submit a written explanation within three days of the Order.
Charles Sobhraj is French man of Indian and Vietnamese descent, who was Convicted in Kathmandu for the Murder of two backpackers in 1975. The Convict killed a citizen of the United States and another of Canada. He was charged against the two Murders separately and was also charged for using a fake passport.
The Serial Killer was sentenced to twenty years of Imprisonment in Nepal, twenty years for the Murder of the citizen of the United States and another one year and a fine of INR 2000 for using a fake passport. He is yet to be Convicted for the Murder of the Canadian.
