The Indian Army, Border Security Force, and J&K Police foiled a narcotic smuggling attempt in Tangdhar Sector’s forward areas, recovering 10 kilos of narcotics worth around Rs 50 crore.

The Army issued a statement in this regard saying,

‘‘This is the second consecutive busting of ‘Pak-Sponsored Narco Terror Model’ in the past one week. Incidentally, a 10-kilo heroin consignment was recovered from the same general area a week ago in a joint operation, however, this time smugglers were spotted carrying the narcotics along the Line of Control. Indian Army and BSF’s strong anti-infiltration posture denied the smugglers accompanied by Pakistan-based Terrorists, the opportunity to cross the fence,’’

According to the statement, the infiltrators were also forced to abandon their cargo and escape.

GV Sundeep Chakravarthy, SSP of Kupwara, said that the whole operation was carried out in the last few days based on intelligence inputs, and that nine kilograms of heroin have been seized from the arrested individual.

GV Chakravarthy further added that the police sources provided the information about the large consignment of heroin was being smuggled across the border to provide financial assistance to rebel groups in the valley.

According to the SSP, raids were carried out at several locations in Kupwara in response to information, and the confiscated heroin was being transported to several locations in north Kashmir and Srinagar.

The case is being looked at further to see if the arrested person is connected to any terror groups and how many drugs have been smuggled across the border so far.
