On December 3rd, 2021, the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police filed the first charge sheet against the former City Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh from Mumbai is one of the infamous extortion cases registered against him and three others in Suburban Goregaon.
The charge sheet is the first in the extortion case against Param Bir Singh, Sachin Waze, Sumit Singh, and Alpesh Patel filed in the 37th Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
The complaint against the four and two more suspected absconders named Vinay Singh and Riyaz Bhati was filed on August 21st, 2021, by businessman Bimal Agarwal who alleged that the accused extorted INR 9 Lakhs from him as a bribe so that the police does not conduct a raid on his two bars located in Goregaon.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Sections 384 and 385 (both in regards to extortion) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code ( against six accused in the case.
The Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police had declared Param Bir Singh as an absconder in an order which was later on revoked. The Supreme Court of India had granted Mr. Singh interim protection till December 6th, 2021.
The filing of the first charge sheet by Magistrate S.B. Bhajipale; against Param Bir Singh and the mentioned three others comes just two days before the interim protection granted to him by the Apex Court comes to an end.
