On August 11, a Special Court under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 in Mumbai rejected the Bail Application of Siddharth Pithani, late Bollywood Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s flatmate in an alleged Drugs case.
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested Pithani on May 28 of this year from Hyderabad and he is under judicial custody as of now.
Pithani has been charged with an offence under Section 27 (A) (financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders) of the NDPS Act, along with other charges.
Special Judge V V Vidwans had rejected Pithani’s bail plea after hearing arguments from both sides.
Last Month, Pithani had filed for bail contending that he was being framed in a false case as no incriminating evidence indicating his involvement in any drug-related offence has been found.
Pithani argued that no drugs have been recovered from him and all other accused from whom no drugs were recovered were out on bail. Hence, he should be given bail too.
The claim made by NCB that he was absconding was false as he had been available before various investigating agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) , Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from June to September of last year and thereafter had returned to his house at Hyderabad, Pithani contended.
Pithani also claimed that the statements made by Rajput’s house manager and cook which NCB had relied upon had both retracted their claim that he had purchased ganja.
However, Special Public Prosecutor Advait Sethna contended that incriminating evidence which includes photos, videos showing Pithani arrange or consume narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances while living with the late Bollywood actor has been recovered from Pithani’s mobile phone.
NCB stated that the investigation against Pithani is still ongoing and a charge sheet is yet to be filed.
